Snow Day! (Not yet but they're coming soon!)

Another long day of teaching left me drained and most definitely ready for tomorrow to be Friday, as well as  Winter break (although it's plenty early it'll be here soon enough).  In honor of colder weather ahead as well as an extended break from teaching and long days in my classroom I decided to do a winter themed card.  So enough of the usual complaints, let's get to the creation for this evening.

As my favorite color is purple (in case you didn't know this by now) I decided to go with a simple color scheme.  Including a deep purple base with a lighter but not too light purple overlay, I followed this up with another dark purple to help the snowflake pop off the card.  Using a few special tools I was able to make the snowflake extra cool tonight, the first tool I used was my framelite which helped create the snowflake design (to which I created with my Big Shot).  After this portion was done I then used a versa stamp to attach embossing powder. thus making it easier with such a detailed item to attach the embossed piece.  When the embossed part is attached it looks blah at first, but when heat is applied it changes colors right before one's eyes.  The silver really helps draw everything neatly together for the snowflake, to attach it to my card I used glue and a few dimensional's to help make it pop even more.  Once this was completed, all that was left to do was to stamp my greeting.  A perfect card for the right person who love purple this holiday season.  Until next time, happy carding everyone :)

Three Fold Fun Card

Today, I was asked if I would make some "Thank You" cards for an old college roommates wedding party.  So I decided to make a card that she might find neat, as I progressed it turned into a birthday card since I don't know what her exact idea is yet.  As I also know some people who are having birthdays in the next month, I decided that I would create a card for them.  This card is called the "Three Fold Fun Card," while I don't have the exact tools that were used in the tutorial to create this card.  I did what any creative individual would do and improvised using what I already have combined with my Silhouette.  Firstly, I drew out a rectangle that was 11" by 4.25" using my Silhouette Design Studio program.  After I drew out the rectangle, I located 8.5" and then I used my ruler to draw a straight line.  Then I drew a 2 3/8" circle, making sure that it was placed in the middle of the line that I had drawn.  Once my card was cut out, I used my scoring board and scored lines at 4" and 8.5".  I then folded at the 4" line followed by the line at 8.5".  Thus giving me me three folds as shown in the last picture.  After deciding that I wanted to do a little something extra on the smaller flap before I finished up my card, I used the polka dot embossing folder to emboss the area.  After it was folded and embossed, I cut out a square that was 4" by 4" on a designer paper that I thought went well with purple.  I glued the square onto the first flap that, and then I used my Silhouette to cut a 2.375" scalloped circle.  Keeping the last fold placed down and opening up the second to assure that the scalloped circle is placed perfectly in the middle of the circle so that when you close the flap, you see all of the scallops on the circle.  I cut out a 1 3/4" circle to place in the middle of the scalloped circle and used the "Think Happy Thoughts" Stampin Up Stamp set to place "Happy Birthday."  Cutting out a cupcake using my Silhouette, I embossed the frosting with stars and then used my scoring board to score the lines in the cupcake wrappers to give more of a pop.  I used a 3D adhesive dot to hold the cupcake in place, the dot needs to be placed at the bottom of the cupcake so that it holds the card shut.   When the card is fully open, you can write a little message to the person that you are giving it to.  The more complicated these designs become, the more fun I am having with the challenge of creating something different.  Until next time, happy carding everyone!

Thank You

Today I wasn't satisfied with the original card I created for you to see, so out with the old and in with the new.  Although I was not on a time crunch to get my card totally finished, Monday's are always a rough day for me.  After a long weekend soaking up the sun (I wish), it's hard to come back to reality and find myself back to work.  But such is life and the more things change the more they stay the same.  Simplicity was key for a quick card today, going with purple boxes complimented by lighter border.  I did alternate this only to not create too much of a checkerboard look and to give separation between the squares.  A simple white card and stamping "thank you" placed bottom right corner completed one of these easier cards I've made in a while.

Sympathy Card

Family friends are always hard to lose but as with the blog a few days ago sympathy cards are a fact of life.  Today I used a design that was to be put on the back burner with the hopes that I wouldn't have to create another sympathy card for a while.  But as it so happens, I needed to make one for a family friend who recently had a bit of a heartbreak.  Using my Silhouette I cut out the "butterfly tree" and place it on white card stock with a purple backing card.  Soothing colors are a must for sympathy cards, to relax the mood of those receiving.  Using my Sketch Pen, I wrote With Sympathy on the bottom of the card.  Over complicating a card for an event such as this is not a good idea, as the card is to offer condolences.

Although June is generally a month for celebration of a variety of holidays, as well individual accomplishments; sometimes we forget those who give gifts for the variety of occasions.  That is why I decided to create a simple "Thank You" card, with a simplistic design that was easy to create and is great for many celebrations.  All cut outs were created with my ever reliable silhouette (without it I'd probably go insane!) but that is beyond the point.  I chose to go with a light purple with a dark purple border, the soothing tones bring attention to the main focus of the card, as for the hanging banners; I opted for primary colors.  Simple on the eyes and the budget as they are readily available at most craft retailers.

I would have never thought 18 days ago that now nearly two thirds of the way through June the creativity would be flowing, but it is and I love it!  So thank you everyone for your support and happy carding!!
